Work great

These don't have that charcoal smell that the regular kind does. It does a tiny bit longer to light but if you just light a tiny candle and hold it over the flame for about 30 seconds it'll start to get that gray ash look and it's lit. I just use tongs and place it on the ash and let it continue to heat up. It's fully ready to use after a minute or two. Just cover with a small layer of ash over the top and you don't get burnt incense. It's wonderful and works fantastic.

Spatial Ecologist

If you have a gas stove, lean a square against a burner and set the flame on low for a minute. Handle with tongs. Easy as pie.

Slow but worth it

These have no sparking or disgusting smoke, which is definitely worth the longer time I spend getting them lit. Don't even bother trying to light these with normal matches, though. I use a long candle lighter, which does the job easily and quickly.

Using "Fireplace Matches"

To light these charcoals I like to use the long reach "Fireplace matches". The ones that are around 11 inches long used for lighting fireplaces, these matches have a long burn time sufficient for getting the charcoals lit.

Bamboo coals

I have found that matches are useless for the most part for lighting these coals. Get some metal tongs and hold them over a candle for a little bit... they work great. The chemical stench of the fast lighting ones makes my wife run out of the room gagging... how much fun is that? Bamboo all the way!

They Didn''t Work At All For Me

I used about 20 matches and still after almost an hour and three of these small squars,I still don''t have any red hot coals.Of course you know this just killed the vibes.No way I''ll try these again.I will stick to the old well known charcoals that spark and have the smelly smoke when they first start.

These are the charcoals for you

I have to agree. Resins are a completely different experience with these charcoals. There is no heavy chemical scent, just pure unadulterated scent. If you enjoy resin incenses these are the charcoals for you.

Much better!!

I too was using the self igniting charcoal and they produced so much smoke upon lighting that the resins didn''t smell very good. I used these and they are not hard to get going and dont have hardly any smell to them so the incense is very enjoyable when burned on these. I will be using these from now on as well.

I''LL BE BUYING THESE FROM NOW ON!!

I HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN USING THE SWIFT LITE CHARCOAL BUT IT SMOKED SO BADLY THAT THE SMELL OF THE RESIN WASN''T ENJOYABLE; I JUST RECEIVED THIS CHARCOAL AND IT IS SO MUCH BETTER. IT DOESN''T SPARK AND IGNITE AS QUICKLY SO IT DOESN''T HAVE SO MUCH SMOKE AND THE RESIN SMELLS SO MUCH BETTER WITH OUT THE SMOKE FOG. I''LL BE BUYING THESE FROM NOW ON!!
